EXCITING NEWS TO SHARE!
Ever since I moved back to Buffalo I’m 2006, I haven’t lasted at a job for more then 2 years. I was always loyal to my employers, but for one reason or another, I knew it was time to go.
Then when I devoted my life to the Lord and He called me to ministry, I left a job I was very successful at- 2 years after I began! 😂
In late fall of 2019, I was at that point in my current job that I needed to move on- but had no idea where to look. As a ministry student, I knew I wanted to work in ministry somehow, someway.
I was scrolling through Indeed and came across a custodian position at the Buffalo City Mission. I clicked on it, because my father had been a custodian when he was going through Bible school- and I thought that would be an interesting twist to follow in his footsteps. Plus there were fond memories of Dad preaching at the Mission when I was a kid.
Well, I scrolled through the posting, and right underneath the job description were other jobs at the Mission, including Case Manager. And since I had been a case manager in the past in a few different fields, it seemed like a perfect fit! I submitted my resume and application, interviewed with the fabulous Felicia Denise Montella and Michael A. Robinson, and on December 16, 2019 I began my career at the Buffalo City Mission as a Case Manager!
COVID hit in March of 2020, just a short time before we moved into our new building. With the new facility came many new ways to serve our community, including the development of a new department, Community Services. With my love for connecting people, fast paced work and being able to serve as many people as possible, it was again a perfect fit! I applied and was blessed to be promoted to the manager of Community Services on March 12, 2020! (2 years ago today!)
Of course, COVID changed a lot of plans, and how we envisioned the department growing and operating was impossible due to COVID restrictions. But we continued to thrive, serve as many as possible, and the department has been very effective through intentional, personal work with those that come to the Mission. We have been so blessed with the opportunity to network through amazing providers to get folks the help they need without any delay.
Through the stress of COVID and the Mission growing into the ministry that the Lord intends, our HR department set up some town hall meetings last spring for us to have open conversations about what our Mission needs to grow and more effectively to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
At the meeting that I attended, the Lord put on my heart to propose a new position; one that would work with the entire Mission to help our staff grow in their walk with Jesus. One that would ensure that the actions, services and programs of the Mission were Biblically sound and promoting Kingdom work first. One that would help the LORD work in us all personally, so that He can carry out His will with us collectively.
I’m not one to propose something without details, so the Lord also gave me the job description, and I wrote out a full proposal to offer to Human Resources and the Executive team.
It was well recieved, and multiple leaders involved said that it needs to simmer and be prayed on and about.
As it’s been simmering, it’s been business as usual, however God has been moving powerfully in and around the Mission, putting people and opportunities in place so that His will is done.
As I’ve been out of work now for 5 weeks, I’ve had a lot of time to think and and process, and I realized that I’ve been at the Mission now for over 2 years, and haven’t felt the slightest inkling to leave. In fact, I’ve grown more into the Mission then I ever expected, and cannot see myself ever working anywhere else. The LORD brought me there, and for the first time in a very long time, I feel a deep love and true purpose in my work, and I know it’s where God wants me.
So, it gives me great joy with an incredibly humble spirit that exactly 2 years after accepting my job as Manager of Community Services, that I have been promoted to the Director of Spiritual Development at the Buffalo City Mission!
The job that the LORD placed on my heart has become a reality, and I am blessed beyond words and comprehension that I get to walk into the vision that He gave me!
I am SO excited, and SO grateful, and can’t wait to get back to work soon to live in this blessing. I love the Buffalo City Mission and my BCM family so much, and I can’t wait to see what the LORD has in store for all of us, together.
King Jesus, thank you for trusting me with this incredible call. May You guide my every step, cultivate every word, and may You work powerfully and intentionally through your humble servant.
AMEN!
