The Reality of Parenting

Oh man….. this quote crushed me this morning.

As a parent, we want to protect our kids, right?
Shield them from the pain and darkness of this world, keep them from trouble and frustrations. Grab them by the hand and rush them past the broken hearts and the sinful ways that so easily ensnare them.

But we can’t.

We can love, support, encourage, guide, teach and help; we can train them up the way they should go- but they have their path to walk.
They have their testimony to develop- their story to tell.

I can’t imagine what my parents went through watching me through the 20 years of my testimony being written; praise the Lord they got to see the other side of it. They got to see their prayers answered, and their love and guidance come to fruition.

As my kids are getting older now, I feel this in the depths of my soul. Watching them navigate through tough times, learning how to process difficult people and how to communicate through it all is so hard.
Knowing that they will face incredible challenges and stunning setbacks as King Jesus builds their faith, endurance and strength- so they can have their testimony someday.

Man, this hits me right in the heart.

Keep praying for your children, hold them tight as long as you can. Train them up in the way they should go; be their biggest cheerleader and most honest critic.
And be prepared to walk with them (not lead them, not push them, not staying behind them) as they are creating their testimony.
